A Time for Reflection
As we approach the new year, many Kenyans should take time to remember the less fortunate in society. The famine in the North Eastern part of the country is a reminder that there are vulnerable and suffering pockets of our population.
There have been reports that ten people have died of hunger in Mandera district. Yet in certain parts of Kenya, (surplus) food is going to waste as a result of lack of proper storage facilities. The government can do more to rectify the situation but that does not mean that the public are free of any blame. They need to improve their farming techniques and prepare for the dry seasons. There is just too much idle land wasting away even during times of plenty.
Kenya is not supposed to be crying at this time of festivities. We need to pull up our socks and work hard to feed ourselves.
